چکیده

Divergence paralysis is characterized by acquired horizontal homonymous diplopia when viewing distant objects but without limitation of ocular movements (Bielschowsky, I935). Although raised intracranial pressure is a significant aetiological factor in the production of divergence paralysis (Bender and Savitsky, I940; Chamlin and Davidoff, I950, 1951), there has been much diversity of opinion as to the underlying mechanism. TIhe present report describes three patients with divergence paralysis in whom electrooculography was used to measure peak angular velocities during horizontal ocular saccades. The apparatus used for electro-oculography has been previously described (Hallpike, Hood, and Trinder, I960; Hood, I968).

Brain Trauma Measurement of Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter for the Assessment of Risk of Raised Intracranial Pressure

Raised intracranial pressure (ICP) is associated with poor outcome after brain injury, but is difficult to detect without invasive devices. As a part of the central nervous system, the optic nerve is surrounded by a dural sheath, and the subarachnoid space surrounding the optic nerve is subject to the same pressure changes as the intracranial compartment. Distension of the optic nerve sheath re...

The electro-oculographic (EOG) features of both horizontal and vertical eye movements in congenital oculomotor apraxia (COMA) were not previously reported. A girl referred to the ophthalmologic department for abnormal eye movements was diagnosed as COMA. The same abnormal ocular movements were observed in her younger sister and her father who was unaware of his difficulties to initiate voluntar...
